About the Yangon Regional Tourism Executive Committee
The Yangon Regional Tourism Executive Committee (YRTEC) serves as the principal regulatory and development body dedicated to the sustainable growth of tourism in the Yangon Region. Chaired by the Chief Minister of the Yangon Region Government, the Committee brings together senior government officials, tourism professionals, and private sector representatives to position Yangon as a world-class destination that celebrates its “Timeless Heritage and Living Culture.”
Our Structure
YRTEC operates through a collaborative, multi-stakeholder framework comprising:
- Leadership: Chaired by the Chief Minister, with a designated Regional Minister serving as Vice-Chairman.
- Government Coordination: Six representatives from key government departments ensuring inter-agency cooperation.
- Industry Expertise: One tourism expert and three private sector representatives contributing market-driven insights and innovation.
- Administrative Secretariat: Led by the Regional Director of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, serving as Secretary of the Committee.
Our Mission and Functions
YRTEC acts as a vital link between national tourism policies and regional implementation. Its core functions include:
- Standards and Licensing
We uphold quality, safety, and service excellence across Yangon’s tourism sector by:- Establishing Licence Scrutiny Teams to assess and monitor tourism businesses.
- Reviewing and approving applications for the construction and renovation of hotels and guesthouses.
- Managing the issuance, renewal, and compliance of tourism licenses in accordance with national and international standards.
- Destination Development & Sustainability
We are committed to sustainable and inclusive tourism development by:- Identifying and developing new destinations, including community-based tourism (CBT) initiatives and homestay programs.
- Promoting cultural heritage conservation and environmental sustainability.
- Strengthening human resource capacity within the tourism workforce.
- Safety, Security and Coordination
Ensuring a safe and seamless visitor experience is a top priority. We:- Coordinate with relevant authorities to maintain safety, security, and public health standards.
- Issue timely advisories on safety, health, and natural disaster preparedness.
- Serve as a central coordination body to address challenges faced by tourism stakeholders.
